Austin Police Department (APD) is the principal law enforcement agency serving Austin, Texas, United States. As of 2007[update], the agency had an annual budget of more than $183 million and employed around 2,000 personnel, including around 1,400 officers.[1][2] Former California Highway Patrol Assistant Chief Art Acevedo was appointed chief of police in June 2007 and took over as chief on July 19; he is the eighth chief in the history of APD.
